Endar Spire, your feet are (narratively) held to the fire, there is very little/no wasted space. Take Endar Spire or Taris from the first game. The levels are so huge that they take forever. However, I feel like both Telos and Peragus suffer from level overdesign. And it's for that reason that I never skip the mining station- it's a mood builder, to get you ready for the real meat of the game.Īs a concept and as a story, I like Peragus's mystery and even the Telos arc. some of whom you might not have expected to join you.īut that mood, that desperate feeling of being hunted while you're weak with a mystery to unravel, it all starts on Peragus. To survive, you'll need to restore your connection to the Force, and plenty of allies. Then, the attack, and your escape! It perfectly sets up this feeling of "there's a blade hanging over my head." Both the Exchange and the Sith are hunting Jedi, and they have their sights set on you. And Atton's got a bad feeling about this. The Harbinger docks with Peragus, but it's empty. Your history with the order seems complex and troubled, much like you, because apparently you haven't felt the Force in a long time. You can learn right from HK that you're the exiled Jedi who served with Revan during the Mandalorian Wars. The miners are dead, the victims of increasingly suspicious "accidents". How did you get here? What killed the miners? Why is Atton in a cell? Who's this old lady? Before this, why were you even on the Harbinger anyway?Īnd as you progress, that mystery builds up into a palpable tension.

It presents you with a mostly empty station full of murderous droids, and lots of questions. It's frantic, fast paced, and full of immediate danger and tension.īy comparison, Peragus is slower and more mysterious. Kind of like the beginning of A New Hope, you're on this doomed vessel and the only hope is to make it to the escape pods to get to the planet below. In Kotor 1, you kind of start in-media-res with the Endar Spire under attack. Something I really like about Peragus is how it kicks off the adventure. So, I listened to another audio tape the one next to the turbolift that reveals HK reversed the password! With that, I was able to open the door. However, I still wasn't able to open up the turbolift door.

However, since I gave myself high intelligence on this playthrough, my character was able to deduce the pattern as military code and finish the code. Before I knew that I would have to open it, I listened to audiotapes with a guy in the dormitory who remembered the turbolift code. I needed a code to unlock the turbolift door. So I try to find the voice modulator, which I did, then went back to HK, got the recording and solved the puzzle, opening the door to the fuel vents through pure trickery and intelligence. So now I figured out I could get HK to tell me it. So I remembered that before destroying them, on every playthrough I did two years back I always got told of a voice modulator that could open the door to the fuel vents, So I asked the HK unit "could you show me the recording of the tech guy saying his password?" (I'm paraphrasing, ok?) And I got told it. Then I decided, "you know what? I'll give my hand in doing these." There's two computers, and in order to progress the game, you need to get by them. There's also the non linearity, and there's two big examples.

This was a very engaging mystery, even though I knew who did it because I never listened to the audio tapes before this point. This is revealed through the last batch, where HK reveals that he was the one behind it all and killed the miners there. Could it have been the sith trying to get us? Well, he's dead so he can't be a possibility.

Then, the final batch, where we finally see Coorta and how the HK unit manipulated him into doing his deeds. Then, the dormitories, where it's learned that the people there have been gassed. You get the second batch, with the commander of the place getting pissed at his tech guy because the droids are firing on the people, and a guy named Coorta because he wants to take the Jedi. You get the first batch, which tells the player that you have been here for a few days getting healed and that something happened to the workers. Granted, there's still the tedious linearity with the level design and boredom when it comes to combat but the storyline progression, how non linear it is and the mystery surrounding Peragus have made me come to love it.įor one, the audio tapes and how they progress throughout is great. However, replaying it has almost made me like it. It's a very linear experience with no real opportunities to roleplay or get to the meat of the companions, the Exile or Kreia, most notably. There's a lot of hate directed towards Peragus II, and some of it, justifiably so.
